Conclusion

As one of the emerging critical criminological theories, peacemaking shows a great deal of promise for increasing our understanding of crime and the problems of the criminal justice system. It draws from several intellectual traditions that are grounded in the concern for alleviating peoples' suffering. The strength of peacemaking criminology is as an antidote to the war on crime perspective that dominates the criminal justice system. Peacemaking criminology has long way to go before it can reach the status and acceptance of the more established and traditional criminology theories. At present, it represents more of a philosophy or perspective than it does a well-developed theory. As more work is done on theory-building and application, particularly in the area of restorative justice, we can expect peacemaking criminology to gain a wider following among academics and to guide the development of more programs aimed at improving the quality of justice
